Actual

Plan at your desk. Keep it honest from your pocket.

The same day on your laptop and your phone. Lay it out on the big screen, then drag it to what really happened, wherever you are.

Works offline. No account needed — sign in only to sync your devices.

Actual's week view on a laptop: Sunday to Saturday in blocks, the morning's blocks ticked off, a to-do list on the left
Actual on a phone: today's schedule, with lunch happening now and the morning's blocks done
Built for each screen

Not one layout squeezed onto both.

The weekly report: 71% of booked time done, a bar for each day, and hours by category

On the laptop: the whole week, and what it added up to

Seven days side by side with your to-do list beside them, and room to drag.

  • The weekly report, whenever you want it — the past 7 days, last week, or any dates you pick.
  • Plan vs. Actual for any day, and yesterday's waiting for you each morning.
  • My Report Card: your best hours, your toughest day, and the habits on a run.
  • A real month for trips and birthdays. Bring your old calendar in as a .ics file.
Actual's list view on a phone: lunch happening now with a Done button, and the afternoon below

On the phone: what's now, and one tap to say how it went

Today as a schedule or as a list, with whatever's happening now at the top.

  • Done, or didn't happen — right from the now card.
  • Talk it out: say your day the way you'd tell a friend and it comes back as blocks.
  • Shared lists with someone you link to. Ticks go both ways.
  • On Android: reminders before a block starts, and a home-screen widget.
How it works

Four habits. The app is built around them.

Lay out the dayBlocks for what you mean to do, however rough.
Drag it to what happenedThe block that started late, the one that ran long, the thing you did instead.
Cross off what didn't happenRather than deleting it. Whole blocks can wait under Unassigned for another day.
Say how it wentOne tap when a block's done. Over weeks it shows which hours are worth booking.

The one rule: changes before a day begins are planning. Once it begins, changes are the record — you never press anything. Two days after a day ends it locks, so the record can be read and copied but never quietly rewritten. Between devices: sign in and every change syncs in about a second; offline, it saves on the device and catches up later.

On your computer

Install it from Chrome in about ten seconds

No download. Chrome installs Actual as an app of its own — its own window and icon, in your Start menu or Launchpad, and it works offline. Edge works the same way.

1. Open Actual in Chrome and click the install icon at the right end of the address bar.
2. Click Install.
No icon in the address bar? Open Chrome's ⋮ menu → Cast, save, and share → Install page as app… (older Chrome shows “Install Actual…” right in the menu).
3. That's it. Actual opens in its own window, with no tabs or address bar. Right-click its taskbar icon and choose Pin to taskbar (on a Mac: Options → Keep in Dock).
If something looks different
There's no install option at all
Install doesn't work in an Incognito window, and a computer managed by work or school may switch it off. Use a normal window — or keep Actual in a tab; it's the same app.
It says “Open in app” instead
It's already installed. Click it to switch to the app's window.
Microsoft Edge
Click the install icon in the address bar, or the ⋯ menu → Apps → Install this site as an app.
Removing it
In the Actual window, open the ⋮ menu at the top and choose Uninstall Actual. Anything you synced stays in your account.
